Drôme Provençale - My Favourite Eateries

Le Poet Laval, Drôme Provençale

I finally wrote up the restaurant recommendations for the Drôme Provençale. I am proud of my selection, I skipped the ordinary and focused on the special. Quite a number of small restaurants but with very good chefs. You won't find the bigshots from further south here. But if you know where to go, dining is just as good here. In general you find a very, very friendly service, great effort and dedication. The Drôme Provençale reminds me a bit of Vermont, I mean the type of people you find there. Especially in the eastern part, in les Baronnies.

Some disappointments too, but let's not talk about them. But I have to rant about Vinsobres. This is a well known Southern Côtes du Rhône wine village near Nyons. They just received their own A.O.C. label, they are the only Cru in the Drôme Provençale. Tiny charming village square, fountain and all, historic corner building owned by the village's only restaurant. But what a sloppy menu and service. I won't name any names. How can you mismanage such a golden opportunity.

But let me finish on a positive note. A boutique hotel in Nyons, "Une Autre Maison". Living in Avignon we did not stay there of course but we had dinner. Delicious! Lovely, intimate place with style.
