wine, food and other adventures of the provence

Aix en Provence - Restaurant Scene

You should analyze what you are getting into before you commit. That's the theory. The reality is slightly different. I signed on to the Provence-Hideaways editorial team in January this year. My responsibility: wine and restaurant reviews. Sounds easy. But in reality it is a tough job. My husband Pierre and I spent a lot of weekends in Aix - fortunately only an hours drive from Avignon - eating our way through the various restaurants there. I did not realize that Aix is such a prolific gastronomic hub. Really amazing. In the end I was assisted by Marie-Louise, my "belle soeur", who told me that being a restaurant reviewer certainly beats living on a small student allowance in Aix. After a sumptuous meal at La Rotonde and its hip young crowd, she is now seriously considering to quit studying law. In any case, this was hard work but very rewarding. I hope you agree with my recommendations. You can view the results either on my blog or on the Provence-Hideaways web page.

One comment on Aix, it is a great, great town. It is vibrant, intellectual, easy going and sophisticated in a Provençal way. Below you see a couple of photos I took in Aix recently. Try to be there during the shoulder seasons when the town is full of students and visitors enjoying the clement weather and life in Aix.

Aix is wonderful
