TGV Station Avignon - It's hot in here!

TGV Station in Avignon

I am in a belligerent mood today after spending 2 hours in our wonderful TGV train station in Avignon to pick up my aunt from San Diego. Everyone marvels about the state of the art architecture; it is great, really. Inspired but as far as I know not designed by Santiago Calatrava. But here are some suggestions to make life more bearable for the users:

1. Open up the space - it is hot inside. I mean hot! Outside temperature today: around 24C (75F), inside temperature: like a sauna! Unbearable when it is really hot in Avignon, say 35C (95F). People stay outside (very limited seating and no shaded areas either) or on the crowded platform. Safer than faint inside.

2. Consult with some experts as to traffic flows, for cars and pedestrians alike.

3. Control the artistic spirit of your architects. Design is at its best when it fulfills both practical and aesthetic requirements.

Need to go now and take a cold shower.
