Côte d'Azur - Hotels and B&Bs
Most areas on the Côte d'Azur (this is the proper French term, English traditionalists call it French Riviera) are densely developed, noisy and during the summer season gridlocked. There are plenty of hotels and B&Bs here. The challenge is to find those which offer comfort, friendly service, a still acceptable price/quality ratio and are located in a reasonably quiet spot. Tough task!
Given the high real estate prices we accept that there no bargains here. But we cannot accept noisy locations, overpriced rooms with lots of additional charges and an attitude ranging from benign neglect to rudeness when it comes to service.
We focus on four areas on or near the coast we like best (from east to west):
Menton - Nice (the classic Côte d'Azur)
Fayence & environs (historic hilltop villages close to Nice and Cannes)
Antibes and Cap d'Antibes (yachties and billionaires)
St.Tropez - Cavalaire sur Mer (our favourite stretch on the coast)
Sanary sur Mer (of Thomas Mann fame)

Ellegant B&B offering the quality of a 4star hotel on one of the most beautiful stretches of the Côte d'Azur near La Croix Valmer (12km south of St.Tropez). Caroline and Jean Pierre have created a tranquil place with all the comfort. Superb views.

A boutique hotel in Cap d'Ail, just minutes west of Monaco. Quiet location in a residential area, nice garden (no pool). A great choice if you want to stay near Monaco but don't want to pay Monaco prices.
